INTRODUCTION
Simply put, modeling of groundwater and surface water
is the science of using computers as tools to predict and illustrate the
flow of water and/or contaminants over time. ART recognizes
that modeling is a valuable tool for understanding the hydrologic system,
ground water resource management, and remediation design. By using sophisticated
groundwater models, ART staff can simulate subsurface conditions
to predict the effects of advection, dispersion, dilution, and retardation
on contaminant flow. ART has applied modeling codes and techniques
to numerous studies of varying complexity.
The following summarizes ART’s
model applications for groundwater and surface water resource management,
fate and transport evaluations, and litigation and mediation:
- Simulation of groundwater and contaminant flow in static and dynamic
systems
- Evaluation of the movement and fate of dissolved and/or immiscible
contaminants
- Regional management of aquifer systems with multiple users
- Evaluation of the long term impacts of waste disposal from landfills
and mining activities on aquifer systems

- Assessment of the efficacy of aquifer and identification of the optimal
design for groundwater remediation systems
