COST ALLOCATION, LITIGATION AND
MEDIATION SERVICES
| LITIGATION SUPPORT /
COST ALLOCATION |
ART staff developed an analytical
fate and transport model to predict migration of chlorinated volatile
organics in groundwater for a Superfund Site. The model was used
in cost allocation mediation by a consortium of more than 20 PRPs
with the principle PRP. The efforts of ART staff resulted
in substantially decreasing the financial obligation for our clients
in the final mediated settlement.
|
| MEDIATION SUPPORT |
ART staff provided mediation support
for an industrial company involved in a multi-party groundwater
plume with chlorinated solvents. ART staff reviewed technical
documents, performed numerical groundwater modeling, and provided
recommendations for on-site investigation by our client. The efforts
of ART staff resulted in minimal financial obligation
for our client in the final mediated settlement for regional hydraulic
control and cleanup.

OptimumTM Remedial Design
and Feasibility Services
| OPTIMUMTM
SERVICES |
ART staff performed the remedial
design, and optimization of multi-phase extraction (soil vapor,
groundwater and floating product) and hot air injection systems
using OPTIMUMTM for sites located at NAS Midway Island,
NAS North Island, and US COE Sharpe Army Depot. The designs included
using a combination of 150 horizontal / vertical extraction / injection
wells for multi-phase extraction, and hot humid air injection to
enhance volatilization and decrease floating product viscosity for
effective removal. The remedial design for the sites, which were
impacted with halogenated hydrocarbons, primarily TCE and PCE, achieved
the following remedial objectives:
• Clean up goals were achieved
• The nesting habitat and flight path of the sea birds including
albatross and shearwater was maintained without interference of
above ground equipment and piping
• Minimized water mounding during SVE/air sparging. This mitigated
the spread of the contaminants to other sensitive areas like the
Pacific Ocean
• Minimized remedial installation and O&M costs by optimizing
the remedial design

DEWATERING CONSULTING SERVICES
| DEWATERING ASSESSMENT
- HIGH RISE LUXURY CONDOMIMIUMS |
ART is currently providing dewatering
consultation services to a major developer for their proposed high
rise luxury condomimium development located in Los Angeles, California.
ART performed aquifer tests, and using the results of
the aquifer tests, developed a groundwater flow model to design
and evaluate the effectiveness of temporary and permanent dewatering
systems. ART staff also evaluated the impacts of dewatering
on the settlements of the municipal utlilities and neighborhood
properties. The results of the evaluations have been used by the
Clients to obtain the necessary permitting and approvals for the
proposed developments from the local agencies.

| DEWATERING EVALUATION
AND DESIGN |
ART
is currently providing dewatering consultation services to mitigate
the impact of seepage from the adjoining hillside and the groundwater
from the subsurface on construction activities for a proposed retail
development located in Oakland, California. ART staff
evaluated several dewatering alternatives, designed the dewatering
system(s), and supervised the installation of Trench and Sump and
Deep Well dewatering systems. Currently, the dewatering systems
are helping mitigate the seepage and groundwater flow at the site.
