WASTEWATER TREATMENT DESIGN
| WASTEWATER TREATMENT
SYSTEM DESIGN, TORMEY, CALIFORNIA |
| ART staff managed the evaluation
process of wastewater treatment alternatives for a facility discharging
wastewater to an oxidation pond scheduled for closure by the RWQCB.
This included the installation of a packaged wastewater treatment
plant on site and construction of a new 1,000-foot-long gravity
sewer. The evaluation involved reconnaissance survey of the alternative
areas, preparation of design and construction cost estimates, identification
of major roadblocks in implementation of each alternative, evaluation
of regulatory requirements, such as CEQA, BCDC permitting, and NPDES
permitting. Following the completion of the evaluation process,
managed the conceptual and detailed design of the project involving
design of gravity sewer, lift station, and other components associated
with the project. Additionally, prepared basis of design memorandum,
developed construction plans and specifications, and coordinated
with various agencies for design review, approval, and permitting. |

| HEAVY METALS TREATMENT
SYSTEM DESIGN, NEWBURY PARK RCRA SITE, CALIFORNIA |
| ART staff performed remedial
evaluation and design as part of a CMS (Corrective Measures Study)
for a RCRA facility that manufactured aircraft components using
various manufacturing processes including metal casting, degreasing,
pickling and plating. These operations produced waste steams that
included heavy metals (Cu, Cr etc.), cyanide, TCE, PCE and other
solvents. The treatment methodologies included pH adjustment, chemical
reduction, precipitation, filtration and air stripping. The consolidated
sludge collected was drummed and disposed of as hazardous waste.
The permits required included air pollution, and NPDES for discharge
of treated wastewater. |

PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEM DESIGN &
MONITORING
| ONLINE PROCESS MONITOR
FOR HEAVY METALS |
| |
|
 |
|
| ART staff designed and installed
a continuous, online process monitor for heavy metals. This system
uses ICP technology and automatically samples, analyses, provides
process alarms, and prepares daily and monthly reports for treated
wastewater prior to sewer discharge. The system was capable of analyzing
and monitoring most process streams requiring metals analysis. |
